I'm more comfortable with markers, so I've been adding new lighting effects on the characters other than the plain shading and base colors. Sushi looks nice with purple. Again, I am so sick of drawing "ok grass.... dirt.... bamboo...house..." I like the backyard, but MAN drawing it this many times has been hard! At least when the dogs start traveling the scenery can change more.

This is a major turning point. Though Raisu does not gain respect, it is clear he is not the everyday puppy. And Yea, in a sea of other 'not-your-average-puppies'. He's only got a spark of talent in strength. Many other things he's pretty average.
Sushi knows better that Raisu is a pet and he cannot make decisions he knows nothing about. She sympathizes more for how their master would feel. The only thing that is overpowering her now is his stubbornness. He may know the truth now but he still only knows what he's been told in romanticized stories.
